This is a photograph I took of Todaiji temple in Nara, Japan. It is was declared one of the world heritage sites by UNESCO. It is said to be the world's largest wooden building. However, the current building is a reconstruction built in 1962 and is said to be two thirds the size of the original. It houses the "Daibutsu", Japan's largest statue of Buddha.
The guide told us that the two golden tails are meant to protect the temple from fire, then she laughed and said, well, the temple was burnt a number of times.
