About Me

Heyy. I'm 18 and I'm currently studying an art and design foundation course at Bournville College of Visual Arts, Birmingham, UK. This one year course will enable me to study an arts related course at degree level this september.

Through my art, I have explored a wide range of subjects: constructivism, Japanese St fashion, exploitation/sweatshop labour, psychedelic poster art, road signs, war photography, political art and sustainable fashion.

I will be posting some photos of my recent art I've completed at B'ville. I have also recently finished exploring the different areas of art: photography, fashion and textiles, 3D, visual communication and fine art.

Since January I have been specialising in fine art. I chose this area of art as I feel that it is quite expansive and where there are no restrictions!

I am currently working on my Final Major Project:Millennium Development Goals. My aim is to raise the awareness of the MDGs through the use of art and textiles. I have completed the experimentation period of my action plan and I am now working on consolidating my ideas...

Check out my work and tell me what you think...

Positive, negative..all is kewl!

I'll keep this updated!

Peace n luv,

Sara x

As part of the BTEC course, we were offered the chance to go to New York or Barcelona. I chose Barcelona and boy was it amazing. It's so beautiful and I just loved it! There was just so much to see and everything more of less was accessible by foot or metro..

My favourite part of the trip was visiting Gaudi's Park..the mosaics were stunning and so so kewl.

Oh yeah..hehe and La Sagrada Familia..it was wow! Weird when you see something in books and then you're actually standing in front of it! They have like so much construction work left to do though...coz it looks complete from the outside but when you go in..you realise that yeah it's prolly gonna take another 20 years to finish off!
Yeah so it was really wikid..I would love to go back again, I enjoyed it that much!

As an artist who has a passion for politics, I feel that it's my duty to inform and educate people about the issues affecting the world today.
For my FMP, I have chosen to raise the awareness of the Millennium Development Goals. I'm really surprised that we are in 2006 - 6 years into the MDG agreement and the majority of the public haven't event heard of them! It is not something to get angry about or just sit back and think...hmm well I know about it...noone else does..there is no hope kinda thing...

Personally I feel motivated to educate my community and to increase their knowledge and understanding about the MDGs.

I am not quite sure on what my 'final piece' is going to look like...as I have been experimenting quite extensively so that I can get a feel of what works best for me...I have really enjoyed teaching myself how to tie dye successfully which has been pretty kewl.
Also, these boxes which were taken from the 3D rotation have also been successful. I think they work well as 'sculptures'...although I have got to add the facts, targets and images...for them to be complete...

I'll update this soon...

Any suggestions, comments - positive or negative are welcome!

Peace, Sara

In January I specialised in Fine Art. I was then given a brief for the 1st project, it was titled Journey. I brainstormed a range of ideas and thoughts and then finally decided to focus on my interest in politics and illustrate it...
Since the War on Iraq protest I participated , I have become increasingly more interested in what's happening in the world today. Although I have always been interested in the history of the world and in particular the background to war...It's so interesting I just love to read about it!
My 'final piece' was going to be a series of canvasses..but as you'll see they didnt quite work out..plus I really wanted to experiment with media - video documentary. In the end I produced a mini documentary was kewl..woulda been good to upload it on here..but it's prolly way too big!

As part of my AS Level Exam, I chose to look at road signs. My initial idea was to create signs influenced by the Pop Art Movement of the 1960s - Andy Warhol, Roy Lichenstein style. However I thought that was kinda predictable and not that exciting. So I decided to scout for books in the library and came across a Psychedelic Poster Art book which I was really diggin'! Using real road signs from a local depot and experimentation, I came up with these awesome signs!

In September 2005, I started a Btec National Diploma in Art and Design so that I am able to study an art related degree at uni.

Basically during the first 4 months we explored and experimented with the different areas of art. These include: photography, 3D, fashion and textiles, visual communication and fine art.

It was really kewl and I enjoyed them all. I learnt so many new skills and hehe it was tough decision when I had to choose just one area...but evetually I decided that fine art was the best area as it's pretty broad...
